Man Accused of Wire Fraud in Weslaco Bribery Case Pleads Not Guilty

EDINBURG - A man arrested for wire fraud in connection to the Weslaco water plant bribery scheme entered a plea Tuesday in court.

Valley businessman Aunil Wadhwani entered a plea of not guilty.

Wadwhani is facing charges for his role in bribery payments made to a Weslaco city commissioner and EDC board member.

The money was exchanged for a development agreement with favorable terms.

Tuesday, Wadwhani told the judge he was not guilty on the charges of attempt and conspiracy to commit mail fraud and fraud by wire, radio or television.

He is out on a $50,000 bond.

Jury selection is scheduled for Dec. 3.

The complaint mentions three other people.
