Mexico Foreign Aid from U.S. Decreasing

WESLACO – Mexico has been seeing a decrease in foreign aid from the U.S.
Every year the U.S. government outlines their plans for foreign aid on their website. For the 2017 fiscal year, the U.S. has allocated $34 billion of taxpayer dollars for countries across the globe.
The U.S. set aside around $134 million for Mexico this year. For now, the U.S. hasn’t sent any of that money, but it also means Mexico won’t receive that entire amount.
For fiscal year 2016, the U.S. gave Mexico only $47 million out of the $142 million they had initially announced.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS found the amount the U.S. has given Mexico has been on a decline over the past three years.
The U.S. also detailed where the money is spent. It’s used to fight transnational criminal organizations, like cartels, and in the war against drugs.
