Over 2,000 Troops Headed to Southern Border
DONNA - In coming weeks, over 2,000 troops are headed to the southern border to help with the immigration crisis.
According to the Department of Defense 2,100 troops are headed to the border.
Some are headed to Donna and others will be working at a tent facility in Tornillo, by El Paso.
Other troops will be assigned to assist federal officers at the ports-of-entry and airports in Texas.
A spokesperson for the Department of Defense says that a decision on whether to have the Texas troops armed will happen at a later date.
This decision will be made by the governor in consultation with Customs and Border Protection.
