Rio Hondo Hail Storm Causes Damage in Property
RIO HONDO - Many people in Rio Hondo continue to deal with damages following a hail storm Sunday night.
Rio Hondo resident Gilberto Santana said he was relaxing with his family when the storm hit and power was interrupted.
“(I) felt the hail hitting the roof and it was pounding hard, real hard,” he said. “It hit the roof. It hit the entire vehicle around.”
Santana and his neighbors weren’t able to assess the damages until Monday morning. Many of them had to deal with dents and broken windshields.
Rio Hondo police officer William Bilokury said three police units also took a hit.
“It developed real quickly, so we had a limited amount of time to react,” he said.
The Rio Hondo area had reports of hail roughly two to three inches in diameter. According to the National Weather Service, baseball-sized hail size can cause some serious damage.
Santana said he’ll have to wait until his grandsons come to help him in the matter. The Rio Hondo resident said he’s glad he has insurance in case damages are severe.
Police also said their vehicles were insured.
According to FEMA, people should record all damages using a camera and carry all receipts of the items damaged for insurance adjusters.
