DONNA - A unique smuggling attempt was foiled in South Texas on Monday.

A group of immigrants were caught hiding in a unique container.

The incident happened just south of Donna, an area known for smuggling according to court documents.

The criminal complaint identifies Alberto Vite-Parrilla.

He said it all started with a phone call; it was a job offer.

He agreed to pick up and drop off a group of immigrants at a store in Donna for $400.00 and was given a phone number.

A Mexican immigrant identified as Oscar Omar Perez-Villanueva was on the end of that call.

He let Vite know he and the group were waiting for him in some corn fields by the border.

Vite drove off to meet them in a grey pick-up truck after he hitched something to the back of it.

When Vite pulled up to the fields, his truck rolled in with an attached portable restroom.

Court records indicate there was only one of these units.

Witnesses said four people loaded into the portable restroom and headed north.

Border Patrol was nearby and when an agent tried to pull Vite over, a chase followed.

According to the criminal complaint, Vite ran a stop light and ended up on the side of the road.

Everyone left the truck, but Border Patrol managed to arrest six.

Vite and Perez were charged with human smuggling.

Court documents indicate it wasn't technology that foiled human ingenuity; a concerned citizen tipped off the agency.
