EDINBURG – U.S. Department of Homeland Security investigators are working to find out who‘s responsible for locking 17 immigrants in a tractor trailer over the weekend.

Edinburg police rescued the people inside the truck Sunday after a concerned caller reported the incident to 911. The call came in before 9:30 a.m.

The caller stated his friend called him and told him he was stuck in the trailer since 4 a.m.

“Hey, I want to report something. A friend told me, a friend called me but he’s not answering me. He said they are locked inside a trailer on Monte Cristo at a truck stop,” the caller said.

Police found the people by knocking on trucks at the Flying J truck stop until people knocked back inside one of them.

No one was injured in the incident.
