Brownsville Mayor John Cowen Jr. held a Thursday press conference to discuss President Joe Biden’s visit to the city. 

Cowen said he hopes Biden leaves the Rio Grande Valley with a better understanding of what's happening at the border.

"For us as a city, it's important to showcase what's happening here and how we've dealt with the migrant influx," Cowen said. "That's really what my role is, to make sure the president understands how we're handling it."

The mayor said the reason the city is able to manage their area of the border is because of collaborations between the city and other organizations.
