Congressman Vicente Gonzalez secures $2 million for Donna Multi-Purpose Sports Complex
Rep. Vicente Gonzalez delivered $2 million in funding to the city of Donna for Phase Two construction of the Donna Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.
Gonzalez secured the money through Fiscal Year 2026 Community Project Funding. He was joined by Mayor David Moreno and city officials for the announcement on Friday.
The funds will go toward developing the south side of the park. New amenities will include a covered basketball pavilion, playground area, dog park, restrooms, workout stations and a market walk for community events and vendors.
"A healthy, more connected community leads to a stronger economy, lower medical costs and an improved quality of life," Gonzalez said. "I proudly worked with the city of Donna to secure this investment and bring new opportunities for both our families and small businesses. I look forward to coming back for the eventual ribbon-cutting and seeing South Texans create lifelong memories in safe, communal spaces."
According to the city of Donna's Parks and Recreation Department, Phase Two will expand the city's ability to host tournaments, public events, fitness activities and year-round programming. It will also create more space for youth activities, family recreation and community gatherings.
Mayor Moreno said it has been more than 40 years since the city invested in a park for the community.
"This park project is a reinvestment in the people who call Donna home and demonstrates our commitment to improving the quality of life for everyone in Donna," Moreno said. "I want to thank U.S. Congressman Vicente Gonzalez for his tireless work in securing federal funding for Donna. This project would not have been possible without his support in Washington."
This past year, Rep. Gonzalez secured $12.6 million in federal funds for 15 community projects, including the Donna Multi-Purpose Sports Complex.
