MCALLEN - RV, travel trailer and fifth-wheel owners are descending upon the Rio Grande Valley from the Corpus Christi area.

The Aguilar family made it to McAllen around noon. They arrived in three vehicles, carrying their two dogs and a travel trailer.

Jorge Aguilar told CHANNEL 5 NEWS they had no choice.

"It was time to go. We realized that we had to leave, leave everything behind," he siad. "And hopefully everything will be okay when we get back!"

Aguilar said his family has evacuated their home before. They're from Ingleside, a small town located northeast of Corpus Christi.

He said they can set up their trailer in a matter of moments.

"You just lower your jacks, hook up your water, electricity, that's it," he explained.

The Valley is a convenient option for evacuees from the Corpus Christi area. Going directly inland from them isn't considered safe, according to the Hidalgo County Emergency Management’s Office.

"If you notice the track of Hurricane Harvey it is going to track into the hill country," said Hidalgo County Emergency Management Coordinator Ricardo Saldana. "And it's also going to leave a lot of water in that area. They played it safe and came to our area."

Aguilar said many people from the Corpus Christi coast are coming to the Valley and not San Antonio. He hopes he'll be able to return home in the near future.

"Hopefully, it will go by in a couple of days," said Aguilar.

Aguilar said he’s glad to know his family is beyond the reach of Hurricane Harvey
