ALAMO – With rain in the forecast, people living in a North Alamo colonia plagued by flooding in the past can breathe a little easier tonight.

This is a CHANNEL 5 NEWS update. We first told you about the neighborhood off Apache Trail and Sioux Road back in July.

Residents living there told us even the smallest amount of rain would flood the street and bring human waste up from septic tanks.

We talked to officials with Hidalgo County who told us they were working to get the right of way of the land so they could expand the size of the pipe leading from the neighborhood's drains to the drainage ditch.

On Thursday, Raul Sesin with Hidalgo County Drainage District No. 1 tells said crews removed the old pipe and re-installed another larger pipe for a faster flow.

Sesin shared pictures with us of piles of trash they found during construction. He said the clogged up drainage pipes contributed to the neighborhood flooding.

Workers even found more illegally dumped trash in the drainage ditch behind the neighborhood.
