MONTE ALTO – Hidalgo County Precinct 1 crews are wrapping up a FEMA-approved reconstruction project in Monte Alto.

Las Nubes Drive was hit hard by flooding in 2015.

Resident Metzly Gallardo lives in the neighborhood. She said floodwaters were left stagnant in front of her home.

"It’s just this part of the street, it doesn’t go anywhere," she said.

When the floodwaters receded, Gallardo said it left the road looking like a mudpit.

Precinct 1 crews recently finished repaving the road. But Gallardo said she wishes they would've added drainage ditches because the main ditch doesn't do much to help alleviate flood waters.

Gallardo said the flooding is why the foundation of her new home is elevated. She said it’s a pattern that can be seen throughout the neighborhood.

"There's no way for the water to go out. Some don’t want anything damaging inside the house,” she said.

Pepe Cabeza De Vaca, spokesperson for Hidalgo County Precinct 1, acknowledged the lack of ditches along Las Nubes Drive.

Cabeza De Vaca said crews will be cleaning up the swells that run to the main ditch.

Gallardo said she hopes it will be enough.
