RIO HONDO – The Texas General Land Office is now reviewing a $500,000 request from Cameron County to help stop the erosion at Adolph Thomae Park.

Cameron County Parks director Joe Vega told CHANNEL 5 NEWS the Arroyo Colorado is eroding the park about one foot to a foot and a half each year.

Vega said barges passing through and storms have contributed to it.

The county would pay less than $300,000 for the project.

Vega added the retention wall is needed to protect infrastructure at the park.
