WESLACO – Officials say hundreds of thousands of appraisal notices have been sent out to property owners in Hidalgo County.

The state requires counties to appraise market value of every property.

Hidalgo County Chief Appraiser Jorge Gonzalez says depending on where a property is located, values could rise.

He says the appraisal district is now accepting protest letters. This will allow property owners to have an informal meeting with an appraisal district member and go over options.

The deadline to protest is May 15.

There will also be a public meeting at the Edinburg Public Library Saturday at 11:30 a.m. for anyone with questions.
