'I'm blessed': DHR Health administers 100,000th COVID-19 vaccine to 93-year-old Mission woman
A vaccine milestone was reached at DHR Health in Edinburg on Monday.
The team of healthcare workers celebrated 100,000 COVID-19 shots, all administered through the hospital since December.
93-year-old Marjorie Porter from Mission was the one who received the milestone injection.
"I'm excited, I'm grateful, I'm blessed," Porter said.
Grateful, Porter said she hopes once she's fully vaccinated she can go back to doing the things she misses most.
"I have been having my meals served in my room as opposed to going to the dining room at John Knox [Village]," Porter said. "I'm going to start eating in the dining room again."
On Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released new COVID-19 guidelines stating that fully vaccinated people can gather with other vaccinated people indoors, without social distancing or wearing masks.

DHR Health officials said despite the latest guideline recommendations from the CDC they are advising Valley residents to wear a mask and social distance until more people are vaccinated.
Mass vaccination efforts are set to continue at DHR Health.
COVID-19 shots are administered six days a week- about 3,000 daily.
Hospital officials say 31% of recipients are at least 65-year-old.
