WESLACO – The federal government is offering a window into the facilities where people who recently crossed the border illegally are processed.

The Central Processing Center, also known as Ursula, can hold up to 1,500 people. Inside, roughly 22 cells made out of chain link fence line the walls of the old warehouse.

Rio Grande Valley Border Patrol Sector Chief Manuel Padilla says in the month of May, apprehension increased by more than 200 percent.

He says because of this, a constant flow of people continues to be processed at centers like the CPC.

KRGV’s Cecilia Gutierrez was among those invited.
