Mayor of Sanctuary City Voices Opposition to Senate Bill 4
WESLACO – The mayor of a community located south of Laredo said they’re preparing to fight back against Senate Bill 4.
El Cenizo in Webb County is considered a sanctuary city. The town passed a Safe Haven Ordinance in the late 90s.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS spoke with Mayor Raul Reyes about the signing of the bill.
“We understand we have an obligation to safe guard the safety and well-being of our community, but we also have an obligation to protect our citizens no matter who they are, where they come from or what language we speak,” he said.
Reyes said he plans to meet with civil rights organizations to file an injunction to Senate Bill 4.
