Murder trial begins in fatal Texas church service stabbing
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) - The murder trial has begun for a man charged in a fatal stabbing during a church service at a private home in Texas.
Marco Antonio Moreno has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity to charges he killed 61-year-old Frank Castillo and wounded three other men in February during a prayer service by Kingdom Acts Ministries in Corpus Christi.
The Corpus Christi Caller-Times reports that jurors on Wednesday watched Moreno's videotaped interview with police in which he said he was being followed and heard people talking about him. Moreno said people at the church were doing unspecified "things" to his mother and that he could no longer "deal with it."
Defense attorney David Klein said Moreno heard a voice during the service saying his daughter was being raped, but that Moreno does not have a daughter.
