MCALLEN – New standards for asylum could impact thousands of asylum claims.

Attorney general Jeff Sessions announced on Monday that immigration judges will no longer consider domestic violence or fear of gangs as grounds for asylum.

A local immigration lawyer says many flee their country because of both domestic violence and gang violence.
