MCALLEN – A family who recently moved into a McAllen apartment complex said they’ve lost all their belonging into today’s fire.

“Baby pictures, baby videos, first moments, haircuts… I have my babies first haircuts. It's gone and that for me is important,” said Angelica Cerino, the mother of three.

She told CHANNEL 5 NEWS her family moved into the complex on 23rd Street and Iris Avenue last week. A fire broke out there around 2 p.m. Friday.

"My son went into the restroom. As soon as he opened the door, I smelt it. I smelt smoke,” she said. “I went into the restroom and there was nothing but smoke on the ceiling. That's when I screamed for my husband.”

Emergency crews evacuated the apartment complex. McAllen Assistant Fire Chief James Schultz said the apartment complex next door to it was also evacuated.

He told CHANNEL 5 NEWS the entire roof collapsed. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
