WESLACO – Border wall construction is set to begin this month and it’s stirring up controversy.

KRGV’s John Paul Barajas spoke with a farmer who is already dealing with a wall.

Juan Mercado’s family has lived on the same property along the Rio Grande for over 150 years.

More than a decade ago, his property was cut in two by a portion of the first border wall; he doesn’t want this to happen again.

"You have to live here to understand what’s actually going on and how effective these measures are," he explains.

Another portion of the border is set to be closed by the wall from Abrhams Road to Rio Rico Road.

He is currently in the process if selling part of his land.
