HARLINGEN – A Harlingen woman says a rotting tree wrapped in power lines was putting her safety in jeopardy.

Elfida Benavides says she called her power company so crews could go and cut the branches. She was told they couldn’t remove it since it was in her property.

However, the tree sits outside her fence. Benavides claims that area is the city’s right-of-way.

KRGV’s Daisy Martinez contacted the city of Harlingen to get answers.

On Thursday, city crews arrived at her home to inspect the issue. A city spokesperson says they will return Friday morning to cut the tree.
