Storms Leaves Thousands in RGV Without Power

STARR COUNTY – Thousands of people don’t have electricity after last night’s storms.

In Fronton, at least one home on Guerra Street suffered major damage. Part of the roof was blown off around 8 p.m. Sunday. A fence was also knocked down.

The homeowners told CHANNEL 5 NEWS power wasn’t restored until 2 a.m. They weren’t able to sleep last night and are now trying to figure out how to clean up the damage, since they don’t have insurance.

The Starr County Sheriff’s Department reported having to clear debris from roads. CHANNEL 5 NEWS is in the area checking to see what other damage the storms caused.

More showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop. There’s a 30 percent chance of rain today and tomorrow. Thunderstorms are possible until to 3 p.m. or 4 p.m. Overnight, pockets of heavy rain are in the forecast.
