TEA: State Not Responsible for Education of Children in Shelters
BROWNSVILLE – A state agency says it’s not the state’s responsibility to pay for the education of children who entered the country illegally.
The ruling from the Texas Education Agency comes weeks after several local public and charter school districts asked to partner with Southwest Key shelters.
Brownsville Independent School District officials say the partnership would have added an increase in funds.
KRGV’s Daisy Martinez learned the Southwest Key program has a working agreement with San Benito CISD and Harlingen CISD.
