MERCEDES – Twin brothers Marc and Matt Ledesma are hard to tell apart. They say if you look closely, you can notice some differences.

“I guess the main thing is I have braces and I’m a little bit bigger,” said Marc. “They say he has more of a baby face and I have more of a manly face.”

On the field you can tell them apart right away. Marc throws and Matt makes the catch. Before this season, Marc played primarily at receiver. His goal though was to one day over as the starting quarterback.

“It’s a huge honor to be named the quarterback of the Mercedes Tigers,” said Marc. “You got to uphold high standards. You got a lot of things to back up. The whole community is counting on you.”

“I mean it’s very special, especially since we’re seniors,” said Matt. “We’re going to take advantage of all the time we’re on the field and make use of our connection. Every time we go out there on the field, we’re just going to ball out.”

That’s what they’ve done so far. Mercedes is 2-1 on the season. Their victories over 6A programs. Marc scored a pair of touchdowns in their come-from-behind win over Weslaco last Friday.

“Their hard work,” said Mercedes head coach Roger Adame. “They do the right things all the time. When you have two guys that can compete at everything they do, even against each other sometimes, that’s what you want. They’re great leaders.”

The Ledesma twins and the Tigers take the field next September 29 when they open district play against Donna.
