DONNA – A Donna woman wants to know who can eliminate an illegal tire dump outside her home. She said the dump was cleaned up last year and came back recently.

In Sept. 2016, CHANNEL FIVE NEWS reported on an illegal tire dump across the street from Gloria Vasquez.

Hidalgo County Precinct 1 crews cleaned up the site in under a week but now the tires are back.

Vasquez and her family moved into their home, located along Val Verde Road, 43 years ago.

"It was peaceful.There's no other homes around us. We were the only ones," she said.

But in the last two years, the peace has been disturbed. Vazquez said old tires are being dumped across the street from her home.

The latest batch showed up two months ago, she said. She waited to see if someone would clean up.

"What I do is I give it about a month and then I said, 'It's OK, it's a month, a week or two weeks.' And then I see that the pile is getting worse," she added.

Vasquez said she does not know who is dumping the tires.

"At first, I thought it was tires that were being pulled out of the ditch or the canal, right? The water thing,” she said. “But this is too many tires to be pulled out.”

Vasquez said she just wants the dump site gone for good.

"I just want the tires moved because of the mosquitoes.There's too many mosquitoes out here," she said.

CHANNEL FIVE NEWS reached out to the Hidalgo County Commissioner Precinct 1 Office to see how the tires can be cleaned up again.

A spokesperson for the commissioner told us off-camera Vasquez can call the office and place a work order for the tires to be removed.

The spokesperson said because they are on county land, the county can clean them up. However, they note the situation has to be assessed because these clean-up operations are handled on a case-by-case basis.

The spokesperson for the commissioner's office said the best way to avoid future illegal dumping is for the public to report it when they see it.

They said any illegal dumping in Hidalgo County can be reported to the sheriff's office at 956-383-8114.

If you spot someone dumping illegally, break out your cell phone camera.

Joe Espinosa with the Hidalgo County Precinct 1 Constable's Office said you should take a picture or a video of someone you suspect is dumping illegally. He said if you can get the license plate number in the shot.

From there, call your local sheriff or constable's office to report it and send the picture or video.
