DONNA – A CHANNEL 5 NEWS crew spent all day with troops in a camp located near the Rio Grande.

We saw firsthand how soldiers went about their duties while setting up concertina wire along the border.

“They’re trying to toughen the areas that are immediately around the ports of entry and so we’re assisting them, building up these wire obstacles,” explains Army 1st Lt. Kevin Barron. “And, it should push the potential migrants away from the port of entry.”

Meanwhile, military medics assigned to the Washington-based 547th Area Support Medical Company are also preparing for the caravan of people making their way to the U.S. hundreds of miles away.

KRGV’s Angelo Vargas has the details.
