MISSION – Plans for the border wall are underway, making life difficult for many Rio Grande Valley property owners in its path.

On Monday, the Diocese of Brownsville announced its opposition to the construction of a wall on their property, which includes land near the Juan Diego Academy and La Lomita in Mission.

KRGV’s John Paul Barajas spoke with a resident who made it a point to visit the historic landmark after the news.

“I love it. This is my first time here, never been here and I love it,” McAllen resident Ramiro Cruz Martinez says. “I don’t know why they have in their mind that they have to build a wall on this property. I’m totally against it. If I can vote on that today, I will.”

The Diocese of Brownsville says they’ve already received official word notifying them that papers have been filed in federal court, in which, the government seeks the right of entry to their property.
