Wreaths Across America hoping to honor Valley veterans this holiday season
Wreaths Across America is preparing for its annual ceremony to honor fallen veterans, and they are asking the public to help them.
Organizers are hoping to place a wreath on the grave of every veteran in the Rio Grande Valley.
Wreaths Across America said they are hoping to receive enough donations for over 1,600 wreaths.
Each wreath costs $20, and for every four wreaths that are sponsored, the organization gives one for free.
The organization so far has only received enough donations for 160 wreaths.
U.S. Marine veteran Laura Marquez organizes the annual Wreaths Across America event, and said she sometimes pays out of pocket to make sure every grave is covered when donations fall short.
“Some of them, they don't have any more families left behind so we don't want them forgotten,” Marquez said. They served and they paid a price, a very harsh price to serve our country, and they deserve to be honored."
Those who would like to donate to Wreaths Across America can do so online.
