KRGV-TV, the ABC affiliate in the Rio Grande Valley, is looking for a Meteorologist to join our five-person weather team. We have the largest weather team in the market.
The position is responsible for delivering accurate, engaging on-air weather reports in a conversational manner and managing updates on various digital platforms to keep viewers safe and informed. We are located along the Gulf of Mexico, so covering hurricanes and severe weather is part of our mission as the #1 rated news station in the market. You need to have a passion for covering severe weather and telling the weather story even on sunny days. The ideal candidate embraces technology and thrives in a fast-paced environment where the use of live cameras, user-generated content, and live severe weather coverage is important.
This position is full-time.
Responsibilities
· Provide accurate and compelling weather forecasts in a multi-platform environment
· Produce clean, creative and informative graphics to tell the weather story
· Ability to report from the field for severe weather coverage and live weather broadcasts
· Update multiple platforms and interact with viewers on social media platforms daily
· Perform special projects or other duties as assigned
Requirements
· Degree in Meteorology or Atmospheric Sciences required
· One to two years of on-air experience as a Broadcast Meteorologist –college grads will be considered
· Demonstrated ability to post forecasts, graphics, etc. to various digital media platforms
· Be available to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, and fill-in when necessary
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment
· Fully bilingual in Spanish and English, very helpful but not required
