SAN BENITO – A Rio Grande Valley woman said it’s already been a five-month wait to get her vehicle fixed.
San Benito resident Araceli Gonzalez was involved in an accident last September. She said it’s hard for her to get to work or plan an outing. Sometimes she has to depend on others for a ride.
She decided to take her Hummer to Tommy Graham’s Paint and Body Shop in Harlingen. They told her the repairs would take about a month.
Gonzalez’s mother, Olga, said she’s helping her daughter sort out the dilemma.
“After a month, we started seeing that it’s taking too long and we’re constantly making calls as to why it’s taking so long,” she said.
Gonzalez said they’ve both tried speeding up the process with their insurance company, Fred Loya Insurance.
“I still have to give the insurance payments, and I really don’t have a vehicle. So, I don’t see why I’m giving the payment,” she said.
CHANNEL 5 NEWS reached out to the owner of the repair shop, Mark Magourik. He said more damages came to light after they started repairs. They had to completely replace the vehicle’s frame.
Gonzalez said it’s stressful juggling work hours without her car.
“I have been without a vehicle. I’ve been asking for rides. My mom has loaned me her truck whenever she can,” she said.
The San Benito resident said she’ll continue to make calls to both her insurance and the repair shop until she has her car back.
Tommy Graham’s Paint and Body Shop said the insurance company finally approved the last item needed to be repaired. They added Gonzalez should have her vehicle within the next couple days.
When in an accident, insurance companies advise drivers to take pictures of any and all damages to the vehicle, gather information from all parties involved and obtain a copy of the police report.
