Corpus Christi Prepares in Calm Before the Storm

CORPUS CHRISTI – Hours before hurricane Harvey brings rain, Corpus Christi residents are on edge.

There are boarded windows, busy gas stations and swamped grocery stores.

"Everything was off the shelves. There's no bread, no tortillas no nothing. So we went to my HEB. There was no Gatorade, no water, no cheese, no cold cuts,” said Corpus Christi Resident Gloria Reyes.

Others passed up the supermarket line to take a look at the beach.

"It's calm right now just came out here to see the clouds see if there's any movement coming in,” said Palmdale native Oscar Olivarez.

Olivarez said he came out to the beach to grab some sand to protect his home in Corpus. He said the city ran out of sand.

“Just be safe out there,” Olivarez said. “If you ain't gotta be out in the roads don't be out there. There’s going to be a lot of flooding stay indoors take your family your kids.”

We also met a Corpus resident who needs no introduction.

"It's a hurricane coming into corpus. Name is Harvey. My name is Harvey. Ain't that something awesome?” Harvey Lopez told us.

His driver’s license proves it. He's got a message for the "other" Harvey.

"Well Harvey. You're coming into Corpus. We are a good city. We believe in god. We have faith everything gonna be fine,” Lopez said.

A big wish as the calm lingers before the storm
