BROWNSVILLE – The Good Neighbor Settlement in Brownsville is helping asylum hopefuls to take refuge.
Volunteers at the shelter are taking these migrants in at night after noticing many are left on the streets after being released from federal custody.
"We've been averaging three to four people a night for the last week. We started last Wednesday,” says Director Jack White. "Unfortunately, the bus station closes down at about 11:00 p.m. and many of those people, if their buses leave the following day, must stay on the streets overnight.”
KRGV’s Angelo Vargas spoke with a volunteer from Angry Tias and Abuelos who wants to see a change in this process.
