McAllen Moving Forward with Annexation

MCALLEN – The city of McAllen is moving forward with its annexation plans.
They want to move on it now, before a new state law takes effect Dec. 1.
In the future, any proposed annexation would require cities to have an election.
Tim Wilkins, the owner of Sofie’s Saloon located off South 10th Street, is fighting the proposed annexation.
“What they’re telling us is we’re going to annex you whether you agree or not, and oh by the way, we’re not going to provide you with services for a least five years or longer. I’ve got a problem with that,” said Wilkins.
City manager Roy Rodriguez said the city excluded Wilkins' property from the initial plans.
There are two more hearings on the annexation plans.
