McAllen airport officials announce nonstop flights to Nashville
The McAllen International Airport announced Wednesday morning it will start carrying seasonal nonstop flights to Nashville, Tennessee.
The city of McAllen said the project has been in the works after carefully studying which destinations were most popular among flyers.
McAllen City Manager Roy Rodriguez says with data from airlines they study destination patterns.
"With the help of the airlines we study what passengers are doing," Rodriguez said. "They'll fly to Houston or Dallas and then to Nashville. It's been determined that there's enough desire and need for this destination."
The new destination was added following the success of Allegiant Air flights from McAllen to Las Vegas, Orlando and Los Angeles.
"The flight to Las Vegas and back is one of their most successful in the country," Rodriguez said.
The route will start May 27 and will be available through August 15. It will follow a Sunday through Thursday schedule, airport officials said.
An online promotion on Wednesday will have fares as low as $69 for a one-way flight, officials said.
