Channel 5 News was given an inside look at the USS George H.W. Bush aircraft carrier.
It’s where many pilots go through several trainings off the coast of Virginia to become naval aviators.
On land, Channel 5 News cameras captured footage of rescue swimmers and helicopter support crews that are ready to go when a sailor is lost at sea.
On water, Channel 5 News got a firsthand look at a water survival training exercise to bring out a downed aircraft.
Jets take off minute after minute on one of four runways on the carrier, with 65 aircraft present.
Chief Stephen Vaiza said they're flown here because the USS George H.W. Bush is the only carrier available for pilot training.
The training runs continue through sunset. The pilots that passed the daytime portion of their training move on to the nighttime portion of the training.
The high paced naval training hardly ever stops.
