TABC reviewing incidents at 2 Rio Grande Valley restaurants

After incidents at two Rio Grande Valley restaurants that sell alcohol, the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission is reviewing whether or not any state regulations were violated.
A man died Saturday after what the McAllen Police Department described as a "negative reaction to drugs" at the Old Beer House in downtown McAllen. On Monday, the Weslaco Police Department arrested three people after a call about shots fired at Sr. Mostacho.
"TABC conducts what we call a source investigation to determine if the source of the alcohol, in this case the business, played any kind of role in what took place," said Chris Porter, a spokesman for TABC.
While they sell alcohol, both the Old Beer House and Sr. Mostacho are classified as restaurants by TABC because they receive a majority of their revenue from food, merchandise or other non-alcohol sales. That classification also allowed them to stay open when bars closed during the pandemic.
Channel 5 News contacted Sr. Mostacho. A manager said he couldn't discuss the incident, but he emphasized they're following all COVID-19 safety procedures.
Channel 5 News also called and visited the Old Beer House on Monday, but couldn't reach anyone for comment.
