Valley Family Outraged by National Article Concerning Late Father

WESLACO – A Rio Grande Valley family was outraged by an article published in a national newspaper.

The Washington Post article stated that a late Valley doctor, Jorge Trevino, is partly to blame for the large number of local citizens being denied passports.

The article says the Trump Administration is accusing hundreds of people along the border of using fraudulent birth certificates.

"We were surprised to see an article that named no one, no midwife, no other physician except for my father," says his daughter Mariana Trevino-Wright.

A spokesperson for the U.S. State Department released a statement which reads in part:

“The facts don't back up the Washington Post's reporting. This is an irresponsible attempt to create division and stoke fear among American citizens while attempting to inflame tensions over immigration.”
