Volunteers Needed to Restore Land to Benefit Wildlife

WESLACO – A federal agency says it has a huge job ahead of it and not enough people to restore property to benefit local wildlife.

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says it uses staff and volunteers who rework the land acre by acre, digging up the soils, pulling out invasive plants and planting ones local wildlife can use.

The agency states they own about 200,000 acres in South Texas – last year volunteers were able to improve about 250 acres.

Anyone who wants to volunteer with recovery efforts can contact the local USFWS at 956-784-7500.
