Weslaco mayor highlights growth in state of the city address

Weslaco's newly-elected mayor held his first state of the city address. 

As part of the Wednesday address, Weslaco Mayor Adrian Gonzalez announced drainage upgrades, including a $46 million drainage project near Harlon Block Sports Complex.

Gonzalez also touted a city-wide pay raise of 3%.

“The raise that we gave our city employees, those are the ones that are the ones that backbone of the city,” Gonzalez aid. “They're the ones that make all this possible, all this business, all this that you see— it starts with them, and it starts with all their hard work and dedication."

The city increased its tax base by $300 million over the last year, which equates to $2.6 billion that is being pumped back into the city.
