NEAR EDINBURG – One person was injured in a major fire, according to Edinburg fire officials.

Crews responded Thursday afternoon to a home on FM 2812 and Harrah Dr.

Edinburg Fire Chief Shawn Snyder said an illegal trash fire spread to multiple structures.

Snyder told CHANNEL 5 NEWS the fire began in a trash can and then spread to a motor home. The home was consumed by the flames.

The fire then spread to the back of a nearby two-story house. Firefighters were able to save the home.

The flames also spread to a grass fire on a neighboring property before it was completely put out.

Snyder said one person was sent to the hospital after falling off from a roof during the incident.

The Hidalgo County Fire Marshal’s Office said there is a possibility the property owners may be fined for the illegal burn.
