2 Arrested for Human Smuggling Following Traffic Stop
NEAR CORPUS CHRISTI – State authorities foiled a human smuggling attempt over the weekend.
A 20-year-old, of Edcouch, and a 23-year-old woman, of Donna, are facing human smuggling and engaging in organized criminal activity charges.
According to a Department of Public Safety press release, a trooper stopped a 2001 Chevrolet Impala traveling northbound on US 77, two miles north of Riviera, for a traffic violation.
Upon questioning, he discovered two children inside the vehicle, a 2-year-old and 5-year-old, had been allegedly smuggled from Mexico.
Both suspects were taken to the Kleberg County Jail and the children were placed in custody of Border Patrol.
