McALLEN - He just might be the best high school swimmer in Valley history.  Shaine Casas has accomplished a lot with McAllen high school.  The senior says he still has one more mountain to climb.

"Last year I didn't really live up to what I thought I could have," says Casas.

Harsh words for a three time state medalist.  Two years ago as a sophomore he burst on to the scene winning a bronze medal. Junior year he won two silvers.  The success of Casas helped put valley swimming back on the map.

"Before people didn't really think much of below San Antonio," says Casas. "But now they're opening they're eyes. There's more and more people coming to regional meets and stuff like that."

Last summer Casas competed in the USA swimming circuit.  With club team "Nitro" Casas faced the best swimmers in the country.

"Definitely a lot of practice with the higher end meets in USA swimming," says Casas. "It's helped me cope with my nerves. I still get nervous for district, regionals. No matter ahead I am, I still get nervous."

Casas will swim with Texas A&M next year.  Before that, one more race to wrap his high school career.  The state swim meet in Austin starts February 16th.
