WESLACO – Customs and Border Protection personnel will get new guns.

Besides new sidearms, CBP officers at ports of entry will also have shotguns and rifles available.

Most are armed with a handgun.

"You can never have too much. You rather have more and have it accessible, that is really what it comes down to, especially in the front lines. Do I think we carry less than what Mexico is carrying? Yes," says CBP officer Eloy de Luna.

De Luna adds they are content with just having officers carry pistols and don't want anything to interfere with their daily duties.

Border patrol will also be part of the upgrade.
