MERCEDES – The concern is about contamination from a Mercedes wastewater treatment plant.

Right across the street, a neighborhood surrounded by floodwaters from Monday’s storms.

People living near Mile 8 and Angus Avenue are convinced sewage from the wastewater plant is mixed in with the flood.

They are right.

A supervisor at the facility confirmed the plant lost sewage in the floodwaters and was documented.

He did not disclose the amount or any more details; then referred us to another supervisor.

We contacted the city manager, Sergio Zavala, about the situation.

Zavala told us he wasn’t familiar with what was happening, adding he had other matters to take care of at that time.
