EDINBURG - Jury selection started in the trial for a Valley doctor accused of misdiagnosing patients for profit.

Four defendants will be on trial for healthcare fraud, among other charges.

They will all be tried together.

Potential jurors showed up to the McAllen Federal Courthouse Wednesday.

They will be sitting in on a trial that's expected to last about three weeks.

Dr. Jorge Zamora-Quezada, his wife, the billing supervisor and an employee in charge of managing the doctor's financial affairs and assets are facing an 11-count indictment.

The government is accusing them of participating in a $240 million in health care fraud and international money laundering scheme.

The group is charged with attempt and conspiracy to commit mail fraud, health care fraud, money laundering, and tampering with a witness, victim or informant.

The charge with the longest prison term is for money laundering.

The maximum penalty is 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $500,000.

Three defendants are facing that possibility.

As soon as a jury is selected, the trial will begin.
