BROWNSVILLE – U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers are gearing up and training for the possible arrival of a caravan headed to the U.S.

The agency wouldn’t comment on the training but did confirm it to CHANNEL 5 NEWS.

On Thursday, a group of 20 officers was seen fully suited with vests, helmets, knee pads and shields at the Brownsville-Matamoros International Bridge.

Julio Cesar Almanza Armas, vice president of the Confederation of National Chambers of Commerce in Tamaulipas, says neither side of the border is prepared for the thousands who might come.

KRGV’s Sierra Pizarro spoke with the Cameron County Sheriff’s Office to verify if they plan to work alongside with federal authorities.
