MCALLEN – The city of McAllen is stepping up safety procedures for the upcoming holiday parade.

KRGV’s Frank McCaffrey spoke with the police chief to see what is expected from the public.

McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez urges the public to alert authorities if they see something suspicious during this year’s festivities.

"We are in a terrorism age. This is that time, number one. Number two, this is a very big event – an event that we market across the world. It has a lot of attractiveness to it. It's a mass gathering,” he says.

Rodriguez tells CHANNEL 5 NEW his officers are continuously patrolling neighborhoods but explains he can’t reveal too many details about parade security.

He anticipates more than 200,000 people will attend the parade.

If you see something, call 9-1-1 or find a law enforcement officer immediately.
