BROWNSVILLE - A Cameron County jury sentenced a man convicted of a 2016 murder in Harlingen. Gregorio Ramirez was ordered to serve 40 years for murder and 20 years for arson of a vehicle. The sentences will run concurrently.

The victim, 33-year-old Houston resident Jose Filberto Casillas, was found nearly a year ago in a Harlingen canal. He was shot at least once. A burning truck was found near the scene earlier.

In a press release, the Cameron County District Attorney's Office stated, "The murder of Mr. Casillas was a heinous crime and the burning of a vehicle to conceal the evidence of his murder devious."
