RIO HONDO – The Bobcats have been on a roll since losing their season opener by a field goal. Rio Hondo has rattled off nine straight wins en route to a district title. Their next game against Navarro will be their toughest of the season. The Panthers made it all the way to the state semis last year. Their slot-T offense proving to be very successful, the Panthers have scored 40 points in eight of their last 11 games.

“They have a really good quarterback, a 6-5 guy,” said Rio Hondo head coach Rocky James. “Got two big tackles too. Most of their damage is done offensively. If we can get some big stops defensively, I know our offense is going to score points. It’s going to be one of the shows where defensively, we’re really going to have to step up this game.”

“I like more running, getting in there and tackling,” said senior defensive back Ruben Hernandez. “I think it’s good for us, defense, being nasty is one of mottos here at Rio Hondo. I think it’s a good challenge.”

“Their offensive line is very tough but our defensive line is tough too,” said junior defensive tackle Troy Macias. “We stepped up big time defensively last week. We feel very confident watching film. We’re doing everything we can to get past them.”

Rio Hondo and Navarro kickoff at 7PM Friday in Calallen.
