South Texas officer has been shot; suspect in custody
MISSION, Texas (AP) - A South Texas police officer is hospitalized in critical condition and a suspect is in custody after investigators say the officer was shot while in the line of duty.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says the Mission police officer was shot Thursday night in the eastern part of the city 6 miles (10 kilometers) west of McAllen. No details have been released on what led to the shooting.
Mission police Lt. Jody Tittle said the officer's identity was being withheld until his family can be notified. The suspect's identity also hasn't been released.
